The Energy Guardian® Kits for Pull Down Ladders

PullDown Door

ESS has 2 different kits that fit virtually over any pull down ladder that is spring based and unfolds down into the living space. Note: Other specialty ladders- including Folding with counterweights and One-piece ladders that slide up into the attic. Call technical support at 1-877-377-4674 as you will need a non standard configuration.

Each kit has an R-38 insulating value, revolutionary air seal and 20 year warranty. If additional insulating value is needed, contact ESS technical support. All kits meet the requirements of the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC). The patented kit design (U.S. Patent Number 7,650,722 B1 and other patents pending) is comprised of a lid and frame. The revolutionary air seal is formed when the lid fits into the frame- no weather stripping, zippers or latches. The lid weighs approximately 10 lb. and the frame is less than 5 lb. Both can be moved when entering the attic.

You need to make a few measurements and note some things to make certain that you order the proper kit for your home. For attics with support trusses adjacent to the frame of the pull down ladder as shown at right, ESS makes The Energy Guardian® Truss Pull Down Kit.

Pull Down Ladder Between Support Trusses

These are most common in new construction. The support trusses are 2x4 boards that extend from the floor joists to the ceiling throughout the attic. They are also typically located on each long side of the opening for the ladder, leaving a narrow entryway. A truss pull down kit is only necessary if the trusses are within six inches of the sides of the entrance.

For a Pull Down Ladder between support trusses, take the following measurements:

A) Height of ladder above floor when folded

B) Length and width of opening

C) Measure hinges outside to outside

D) Measure distance from top of floor joist to attic ceiling.  If it is less than 15 inches, call technical support at 1-877-377-4674 or send an e-mail to info@essnrg.com
